A Room with a (re)view

A Review: Fairfield Busan

During a 10-day trip to South Korea, the travelers went south to Busan, where they stayed at the Fairfield. This business hotel is located at Haeundae Beach one block from the ocean.

Location, Arrival, & Check-In

Haeundae Beach is located about 30 minutes from Busan KTX Station by taxi. But for anyone visiting this southern coastal city, visiting Haeundae or Gwangalli (sp) beaches are where folks tend to travel, anyways.  The location is in a great area of Busan

A 2 minute walk to the beach and a 10 minute walk to the seaside train, this Fairfield is a good size for a great price.

Upon check-in, I was informed of an upgrade – a partial ocean view room on the top floor. The staff was extremely friendly and spoke Korean and English fluently. Due to a new law in Korea, some amenities were extra, such as a toothbrush and toothpaste, but this was seen in all hotels across the peninsula.

The room was on the smaller end, but this was expected while staying at a Fairfield.

Discounts with Room Card

The biggest perk of staying at this hotel was the number of discounts and freebies offered around the city that have partnerships with this Fairfield. Presenting your room key to certain establishments gave free drinks, food, and gifts, as well as large discounts on activities. A paper showing these discounts is given at check-in, but an even better way to check is through the hotel’s website. This gives an up-to-date list of all the perks, as well as a map with each establishment.

I chose to hit up a few restaurants thanks to this list, as well as enjoy an hour boat ride between the beaches for only $10 USD.  This more than made up for the need for a club lounge as it gave more incentive to explore the city.

Casino

Across the street is Paradise Hotel and Casino, which itself is located directly on the beach. This is a casino that I enjoyed over the years and is very clean and above board. It does cater more to the Chinese tourists, however, so they did not have any blackjack games – strictly roulette and baccarat. But for an hour or two, I found myself peeling cards amongst high rollers before leaving for dinner.

Conclusion

The Fairfield Busan was a great hotel that is in a great location to explore Haeundae. It’s proximity to the beach and other attractions puts it in an ideal spot. And the perks offered with local partners adds a local touch rarely found in business hotels. Overall, a nice location with great staff in a solid area.
