Location, Arrival, & Check-In

The JW Marriott Ankara is located a few miles from Ankara’s center, and most tourist attractions, so not ideal for tourist. The area itself is business and industrial with not much around beyond several shopping malls and complexes with large office buildings.

The hotel building itself is large and modern. The entrance is hard to miss, and inside the upscale decorations only enhance the property’s overall appeal to those entering for the first time. At the entrance, this traveler was met by a team of bellmen who brought the bags in and brought through the hotel’s security before escorting the traveler to the hotel’s check-in.

A dedicated Marriott Bonvoy Elite check-in line was available and this Titanium Elite member took full advantage of the expedited service. Upon check-in, this traveler was offered a JW Marriott branded, and initials in-graved wallet as a gift. Due to an extended stay, no room category upgrade was available but the traveler was provided in a room on a high floor facing away from the busy street and pool area, which minimized noise.

Hotel Room

The JW Marriott features 413 modern and spacious rooms and suites, with panoramic city views. This traveler was given a king bed room on a high floor. The room included a large working desk and comfortable chair near the windows with lounge chairs adjacent, to maximize the sunlight and views. The large king sized bed was comfortable and faced a large TV and cabinet set.

Near the entrance, a large wardrobe with space for suitcases was available. Directly across, a spacious bathroom is found. It features a soaking tub and shower with all the usual JW Marriott amenities.

Club Lounge

Perched on the 22nd floor, the club lounge was definitely a highlight of this traveler’s extended stay. On one end is a casual seating area with chairs and TVs playing the news. On the other, a more restaurant style seating area with booths and circular tables spread out. This side also included a private bathroom.

In the middle, a beautiful selection of drinks and snacks was available. The food changed daily but always included a Turkish soup, a selection of sandwiches and salads, a meat and starch pairing, and delicious Turkish sweets. There was a self-serve bar and a selection of premium alcohol, which sometimes include a bartender to make speciality cocktails.

Amenities

The hotel features two large restaurants and two well appointed bars. The first – Fires & Flavors – includes a bountiful Turkish buffet breakfast that also features a buffet lunch and dinner option, too. The second – JW Steakhouse – is a classic American steakhouse experience in Turkiye. Be sure to save room for dessert – their classic NY cheesecake is delicious, and one of their best sellers.

On the ground level is Velocity Sports & Entertainment – the spot to watch games and have drinks and casual bites. Across from the lounge is Skye Vue Cocktail Bar & Terrace – the prime spot for a pre-dinner cocktail or nightcap. The terrace has two large seasonally-used fire pits and also includes panoramic views of Ankara.

Perhaps a highlight for leisure travelers is the hotel’s spa – Karma. This large spa features several treatment rooms, a relaxation room with hot stones, a wet room with a soaking tub, sauna, and steam room and a large Turkish hammam.

Across from the spa is a large indoor gym and both an indoor and outdoor pool, which this traveler did not have the opportunity to use unfortunately.

Conclusion

This hotel is an excellent option in the heart of Sydney for those looking to explore the city while also indulging in a bit of comfort.
