The Athenee Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Bangkok is a sprawling property in the heart of the Sukhumvit area, near some of Bangkok’s largest mega-malls.

Over the yers, there are a handful of hotels in Bangkok that these travelers would keep hearing about. One of these famous hotels was The Athenee Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok. While attending a wedding over the holidays, the travelers took advantage of this opportunity.

Location, Arrival, & Check-In

Arriving on a late evening flight, the travelers decided to take a hotel car to the property. With the infamous Bangkok traffic, the ride took a little more than an hour. But, the wait was well worth it. As one walks into the lobby of the hotel, fresh flower arrangements and beautiful architecture immediately surround all who enter.

As a Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Elite member, the traveler was escorted from the lobby to the Club Lounge on the 26th floor to complete the check-in process. A welcome drink was offered while the formalities were complete. Unfortunately, since the travelers had arrived during Christmas, no room upgrade was available.

Hotel Room

The room booked was a nice, well appointed traditional yet modern room. As one walks through the door, a wardrobe, mini bar, and closet are lined up at the entrance. Opposite the space is the bathroom, which had both a shower and tub. Further in the room was a comfortable large king-sized bed. Front the large floor to ceiling windows was a room-length sofa that was comfortable for taking in the views. A large desk with seating rounded out the room.

Club Lounge

The Club Lounge was spacious, taking up two sides of the hotel’s 26th floor. One one end was a hot food section and small buffet and the other included a bar. Both had a mix of seating including restaurant style tables, high tops, and lounge sofas. The lounge serves breakfast, which is a great quiet alternative to the restaurant below, and a happy hour in the evening with light snacks and drinks. The rest of the day includes drinks for purchase and some Thai snacks.

Amenities

Unfortunately during this stay, the traveler was dealing with a stomach bug and was unable to take advantage of the hotel’s amenities. However, the traveler was able to visit a few of the spot for short periods.

One of the well-known amenities is the hotel’s lagoon-style pool, perfect for an afternoon swim. On the same level, the hotel’s 24/7 fitness center can be accessed, which includes sauna and steam rooms.

Conclusion

Despite being ill and remaining in the room for most of the stay, this hotel stood out as a strong contender for a luxury stay in Bangkok. The hotel staff’s attention to detail and the property’s expansive amenities are all great, especially for Marriott Bonvoy elite members.
